I worked hard over the last seven years to make Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

I am proud of my record, and there has been considerable progress on many fronts, with unemployment falling, crime rates down, and a fantastic £480 million investment in the redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Whilst this is fantastic, I know that there is more to be done. 

This is why I have set out my 6 point plan to highlight what I will do if I am re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven:

1) Deliver the £480 million hospital development

I successfully campaigned to secure the £480 million funding for our new hospital. Work has already started on the redevelopment and I will monitor the progress closely to ensure that the hospital is delivered on time and to ensure that it provides 21st Century healthcare for us all in our area.

2) Protect our green spaces

I have campaigned to protect valuable green spaces like Meadow Vale, St Aubyns and Hidden Farm planning applications, and I have urged the City Council to look instead at brownfield and city centre sites. I will fight to make sure that the important and distinct villages across the area will remain protected from unnecessary development and that the problem of infrastructure is considered. 

3) Fight against unauthorised traveller encampments

I have received thousands of complaints from residents about unauthorised traveller encampments on vulnerable green spaces across the city.  In response to this I set up and ran a petition, which I presented in Parliament. I am urging the Police and Council to use their powers to reduce nuisance and disruption in the settled community, and I will continue to do so.

4) Be a strong voice on traffic issues

I regularly receive complaints about rat running, speeding and excessive traffic on roads such as the A259, Falmer Road, Rottingdean High Street and the Lewes Road. I will continue to call on all local councils to resolve the awful traffic situation across the area, and stand up for residents who are tired of sitting in traffic each day. 

5) Support the Saltdean Lido

I have worked closely with the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company who have recently been awarded £7 million in funding to see the refurbishment take place. I have been a strong supporter of the CIC, and I pledge to continue to do so, as a refurbished Saltdean Lido will be a fantastic community asset that we can all be proud of.

6) Stand up for the elderly

I have taken a close interest in issues surrounding elderly people, and have been a strong supporter of local events such as the Deans Senior Tea Clubs. I will remain a strong voice for elderly residents all across Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, raising important issues such as elderly isolation, loneliness, and giving people greater security in old age.

My final aim is to provide a better and brighter future for everyone in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven. I backed measures in Parliament to ensure that there are more opportunities for businesses to start, more jobs created, more apprenticeships started and more job prospects for young people in the area. I pledge to continue to support all efforts to improve employment prospects and opportunities for everyone across Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven.
