I have been contacted by many local residents about the issue of traffic on the A259. This is something that I have been working on for a very long time and I have raised constituents’ concerns frequently with all our local Councils. It is also one of the many issues that I always discuss when I meet with the Chief Executive Officers from East Sussex and Brighton & Hove. I was pleased to meet the new CEO of Lewes District Council recently together with the Council Leader Councillor Andy Smith to discuss this very important issue.

I am told by ESCC that the introduction of any kind of relief road north of the A259 or a new link to the A27 to relieve congestion on the A259 between Peacehaven and Rottingdean would be very challenging to deliver as both would cross the protected landscape of the South Downs National Park to the north of these towns. They have said that they are working to improve the efficiency of the existing network and encourage walking, cycling and public transport journeys to help relieve congestion on the A259.  

Please be assured that I will continue to call on local Councils and work together with local Councillors to try and resolve the awful traffic situation across the area and stand up for residents who are tired of sitting in traffic each day.
